Green@MAX initiatives
We’re working with MAX venues and partners to find ways to recycle, reduce energy consumption, and reduce waste. Here are ways the MAX team and its partners are working to keep MAX green:

Venue — Los Angeles Convention Center
When considering venues for MAX, the planning team takes care to find venues that are actively involved with green initiatives.
In 2008, the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) was certified in Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design, and the center is working toward enhancing that certification with new Earthfriendly programs like thermal storage and creating green space for its community.
On October 18, 2010, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded LACC the highly coveted Gold certification in LEED-EB in Operations and Maintenance (O&M), a two-step elevation bypassing Silver certification. LACC now becomes the largest U.S. convention center to achieve LEED-EB O&M Gold certification.
Los Angeles Convention Center environmental initiatives:
- 100% eco-friendly public cafes and restaurants
- Food waste diversion program
- 95% food product cleaning materials
- 100% free-range organic grass-fed beef
- Participation in the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Restaurant Program
- Sustainable roofing reflectance and emittance
- Solar heating attenuation
- Efficient lighting
- Air-conditioning efficiencies
- Efficient energy conservation management
- Renewable energy (solar power and natural energy)
- Recycling programs (LACC annually diverts and recycles over tons of goods)
- Composting
- Clean air initiatives
- Chemical-free water treatment technology
- Restroom water conservation
- Kitchen dishwasher efficiency
- Tree planting

Freeman event services
- VUTEk printers — Direct Print system flatbed printing technology produces high-quality signage without laminates or glues, reducing nonrecyclable plastic product and energy consumption by 30%.
- Falconboard substrate — Freeman’s 100% recyclable substrate Falconboard helps produce signs that are totally recyclable.
- Banner recycling — For a minimal shipping cost, Freeman offers to gather banners at show closing to deliver to the closest banner reclamation center. Banners are repurposed and can be made into products that show management can buy back at a reasonable price to give away or sell in their show stores.
- Eco-friendly carpet — Freeman provides carpet and padding made from partially recycled materials. Carpets can then be recycled into items such as pipes for septic tanks; used padding is turned into packing material.
- Exhibitor kits — Online exhibitor kits save on printing and mailing.
- System components — Aluminum alloy system components are made from recycled metals that are continually reused and recycled into new system components when worn.
- Fuel — Instead of gasoline, Freeman uses over 70% LP natural gas (propane) to fuel forklifts and other vehicles to improve safety and air quality.
- Cleaners — Orange Magic carpet cleaners and shampoos meet Green Seal’s environmental standard for industrial cleaners.
